Nelson Mandela believed in democracy. He also said that he will fight against white domination as well as black domination. He believed that only democratic rule will help for the overall development of country in all fields. People should live in harmony and must help each other.

Nelson Mandela was one among the ten leaders of African National Congress, taken for the Rivonia trial. They were accused of 221 acts of sabotage to overthrow the apartheid system. Mandela did not deny the charges made on him. It is called as Rivonia trial because 19 accused including Mandela was caught from Rivonia in Johannesburg.

He was inspired by the writings of Mahatma Gandhi. He believed in the non violence policy taken by Gandhiji. Many other great leaders were inspired by the writings of Gandhi. It is actually the writings of Gandhi which motivated him to protest against the apartheid system in their country.

Nelson Mandela played an important role in the overall development of South Africa. After nelson Mandela became the president there was rapid changes in the development of the country. He played an important role to stop the racism practised in the country.

Nelson Mandela became the president of South Africa in 10 May 1994. He is the first person selected as the president from the black community. After he became the president he worked for the upliftment of the backward communities. He believed in equality among all.

Nelson Mandela was the head of African National Congress at that time. He started guerrilla activities to stop the apartheid system followed in their country. He used it only if it was found absolutely necessary. When all other methods fail, he used this method to fight against the racial discrimination.

Nelson Mandela was against the apartheid system followed in the country at that time and he showed his protest against this system as a result of which he had to go to jail for some years. He carried on the anti apartheid activities in prison also. Mahatma Gandhi was his source of inspiration.

Autobiography of Nelson Mandela was published in the year 1994. Its name is, ‘Long Walk to Freedom’. He started this work when he was in prison. This book has inspired lots of people. He did not include any incidents related to the violence in the nineties in that book.

Nelson Mandela received Nobel Peace Prize in the year 1930. He got this award for his activities which helped in the removal of the apartheid system. He also worked for the upliftment of the poor and the downtrodden. He was also known by the name, Madibaba in South Africa.

The British people in India used the policy of Divide and Rule in India. They discriminated people on the basis of religion to destroy the unity among the Indian people. Gandhiji strongly opposed this and protested against this. Gandhiji also said that unity is required among the people to free India from the hands of the British.
