He believed in truth and followed it throughout his life. This book inspired lots of people. The book was published by Navajivan trust.

Mahatma Gandhi – Man of the year

Gandhiji was selected as the ‘Man of the year’ in the year 1930 by the Time magazine. It is a magazine from the U.S. it selects a person every year as the ‘man of the year’. This award is given on the basis of contribution made by that man on that year. This is on of the prestigious awards.

Gandhiji - The Mahatma

Mahatma is a Sanskrit term meaning great soul. Gandhiji believed in truth and justice and he followed both throughout his life. This name was given to him for that. Some people think that this name was given to him from the western people. But, it is not true.

Gandhi also called as Bapu

Mahatma Gandhi is also known by the name, Bapu. He used to be very friendly with everyone and mingled freely with everyone, especially with the lower sections in the society. He worked for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden.

Gandhiji is referred to as ‘Father of Nation’ in India. He got this name because of the valuable contributions made by him in order to free India from the hands of the British. He also contributed for the overall development of India in all fields.

Gandhi Peace prize

Indian government gives away International Gandhi prize to a person every year. This award is given to show the respect towards Gandhi. In order to be eligible for this award the person must make some contributions in social, political or economic field. The person is chosen by the chief justice of India and by other two famous personalities.

Gandhiji and Swadeshi policy

Gandhiji started the Swadeshi policy as a part of the non cooperation movement. This policy was mainly aimed to promote khadi and boycotted foreign goods. This policy taken by Gandhiji helped the weavers of India. People started boycotting the foreign goods and started using khadi clothes.

He stood against Purdah system

During Gandhiji’s time there was purdah system followed in many parts of the country. He was against this system. He wrote many articles to show his strong protest to the system practised. According to this system, women were not allowed to show their faces in public places and their opinions were not considered.

Kheda Satyagraha

Mahatma Gandhi played an important role in Kheda Satyagraha. This Satyagrahawas launched by Gandhiji in Kheda district in Gujarat. At that time high taxes were imposed on peasants by the British and the condition of the peasants became more miserable when the British people started to increase the tax. Gandhiji protested against this by starting the Kheda Satyagraha.

Gandhi’s Role in Zulu war

In South Africa, Mahatma Gandhi encouraged British to take Indians along with them in the Zulu war. Gandhiji did to this to make sure that the Indians get the full citizenship. In response to that British refused good positions for Indian people in their military even if they are qualified.
